PROJECT HISTORYFor several generations now the amazing history of New London has been close to forgotten. Located adjacent to modern Route 460, thousands of motorists daily speed past the site unaware that a thriving colonial town once stood there. Modern development has engulfed part of the original town land and important archaeological sites are in imminent danger of being lost. In the winter of 2005 a group of local citizens decided to take action and formed the Friends of New London, Virginia, Inc. Our ranks include both professional and amateur historians, genealogists and archaeologists. Our members include many residents of Lynchburg, Campbell County and Bedford County and many of us are descended from early residents of New London. But we also have members throughout the United States who have found their ancestors once called New London home. Our mission is clear: to preserve what we can of the old town and present its rich history to the public. See also: Images of New London |

MUSEUM LOCATION

Friends
of New London, Virginia, Inc. presently occupies a modest office in New
London. We are in the process of planning and site selection for
an appropriate space to host collections. Our goal for the museum is
that it will be a significant resource for the local community, a center
for researchers and a major player in the area’s growing reputation as a
heritage tourism destination.
