For several generations now the amazing history of New London has been close to forgotten. Located adjacent to modern Route 460, thousands of motorists daily speed past the site unaware that a thriving colonial town once stood there. Modern development has engulfed part of the original town land and important archaeological sites are in imminent danger of being lost. In the winter of 2005 a group of local citizens decided to take action and formed the Friends of New London, Virginia, Inc. Our ranks include both professional and amateur historians, genealogists and archaeologists. Many of our members are descended from early residents of New London. Our mission is clear: to preserve what we can of the old town and present its history to the public.
